Master Gardeners do more than just answer questions in person. Our volunteers use various media outlets to share information. Here are a few:

Durham Master Gardeners who enjoy writing can submit articles to our wonderful newsletter. Each month, editors Kit Flynn and Barbara Goodman collect submissions, write, and put together an interesting publication. The September 2014 issue can be found here.

In addition, this blog accepts submissions and suggestions from volunteers. We welcome short, research-based articles of general interest to anyone growing plants in the Triangle area.

Master Gardener Volunteers have a weekly radio show, Getting Dirty with the Durham County Extension Master Gardeners. The show airs every Tuesday at 2 PM on WCOM 103.5 FM. The Getting Dirty team of Lise Jenkins, Harold Johnson, and Charles Murphy, discuss a variety of topics each week. In this photo, Harold is at the mic.

Durham Master Gardeners also create videos. In this YouTube channel, Durham County volunteers produced these videos for the Soil Solutions curriculum for teachers. Our volunteers have also produced video content for the NC A&T Community Gardens channel on YouTube.

There are many exciting ways to get involved with the community as an Extension Master Gardener Volunteer!

It’s National Moth Week

This morning, I learned (via the NC Extension Master Gardeners’ Twitter feed) that the week of July 20-28, 2013 is National Moth Week. The NCEMG tweets included links to interesting articles and beautiful photos of moths, which I’m sharing below.

First, from the Extension Master Gardener blog: http://blogs.extension.org/mastergardener/2013/07/22/national-moth-week-july-20-28/

On Facebook, the NC Extension Master Gardeners shared these photos: https://www.facebook.com/NcExtensionMasterGardeners/posts/596753847012776

Project Noah’s blog contains this article about sphinx and hawk moths. The photos are gorgeous! http://blog.projectnoah.org/post/56170892604/sphingidae
