It’s HOT – watering tips

By now, we’ve all heard the forecast – record breaking heat for the next few days. In weather like this, your plants may need some extra care. In hot weather, plants’ metabolic processes are faster than they are during cooler times. Hot soil dries out faster. If you haven’t been doing so already, you’re going to have to pull out the garden hose this week.

Make sure your containers are well watered. You may need to water more than once a day when temperatures are high. Lawns and landscape should be watered slowly. Our clay soil does not absorb water quickly, so heavy, fast watering will just lead to water runoff. A soaker hose is a great way to water vegetables and landscape plants. Watering in the morning reduces the risk of disease.
