- This workshop is presented in partnership with NC Coperative Extension, Durham County Center.
- Learn how to grow shiitake mushrooms in your own backyard! We’ll teach you how to prepare and inoculate your own log, promote mushroom growth, where to store, when and how to harvest, and more. All materials will be provided and you’ll go home with your own inoculated oyster mushroom log! This event will be hosted at the DPS Hub Farm, an outdoor facility for environmental education owned and operated by Durham Public Schools. We will include time for a brief tour of our facility. All tools will be provided, but if you have a drill, 5/16″ bit, angle grinder, or hammer please bring it.

- Briggs Community Garden is an agriculture education space owned by the North Carolina Agriculture Foundation at NCSU. An extension program offering applied food and nutrition education with a seed to table approach. We teach families how to grow food for themselves and others using USDA Organic methods following food safety from the garden to the table. 30% of the food we grow is donated to Durham Technical Community College pantry.
- No need to RSVP just come on by! Wear sunscreen and a hat and comfortable close toed shoes.

Butterfly Highway Informational Session

- Please join us for an afternoon of Butterfly Highway seed packing and mingling with like-minded conservationists at the Southwest Regional Library in Durham. This will be a great opportunity to learn about what it takes to be part of a Community Wildlife Chapter and how NCWF is working to protect and conserve wildlife and habitat throughout the state. No registration needed.

Grafting Workshop and Scion Exchange

- Do you want to increase your inventory of shrubs and trees but have little room? Learn the grafting methods commonly used to add different varieties onto an existing plant so that both varieties produce flowers and/or fruit.

- Participation in workshop not required and there is no registration for this exchange.
- After the workshop, join us for our annual scion exchange from 11am to 12pm. February is the perfect time for winter pruning. Instead of composting the discarded branches (scions), exchange them with other orchardists and pick up some new-to-you varieties. Hosted by the Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteers of Durham County.
